During this spectacular excursion, you will explore one of Iceland's most unique natural wonders: the mysterious ice cave of Katla, located at the foot of the active Katla volcano, deep beneath the vast Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Here, you descend into an ancient world of blue, black, and crystal-clear ice – shaped by volcanic activity and glacier forces. Each winter, this cave changes form, making every visit a unique masterpiece of nature.
The journey begins with an adventurous ride in a Super Jeep past iconic film sets and through rugged glacial landscapes. Your first stop is at the outskirts of the Kötlujökull glacier, where, together with an experienced guide, you will take a short glacier hike (about 10–15 minutes) to the ice cave. Inside, you will marvel at the stunning colors, jagged ice formations, and the silent grandeur of this underground world. The guide will share insights about the cave's formation, the geology of the area, and life beneath the ice along the way.
After visiting the cave, you will also explore secret waterfalls, hidden glacier crevasses, and a remote black sand beach, far from the crowds. You will receive crampons for your shoes, ensuring safe and comfortable movement over the ice.
This excursion is available as a shared tour or a fully private experience – perfect for those who want to enjoy this hidden Icelandic wonder in peace and exclusivity.
