Practical Information

Travel documents / Visa
  • A valid passport is required, with at least six months validity remaining upon entry.
  • No visa is required for stays up to 90 days for holders of a Dutch or Belgian passport.
Climate & Best Time to Travel

Morocco has a diverse climate that varies greatly by region. Along the coast, there is a pleasant Mediterranean climate, while the interior and desert areas experience a continental climate with significant temperature differences between day and night. In the Atlas Mountains, it can get quite cold in the winter months, with snow on the higher peaks.

The best time to travel is during the spring and fall, from March to May and from September to November. During these periods, temperatures are comfortable — averaging between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius — and the landscape is at its most beautiful. The summer months can become very hot in Marrakech and the desert areas, with temperatures exceeding 40°C. Coastal towns offer a pleasant alternative during this time.

Vaccinations & health

There are no mandatory vaccinations for a visit to Morocco. Hepatitis A and DTP are recommended. Protect yourself well against the sun, drink plenty of water, and preferably use bottled water.

Time difference

During Dutch and Belgian daylight saving time, it is one hour earlier in Morocco. During the winter time, there is no time difference.

Money & Currency

The local currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). Euros can be exchanged at many locations. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and larger restaurants. In the souks and at local markets, cash payments are common.

Important holidays

The holidays in Mauritius are partly similar to Dutch holidays due to the shared religion. Additionally, there are many other religions represented, such as Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism.

The following holidays are celebrated every year.

  • January 1 - New Year's Day
  • January - Chinese Spring Festival (dates vary each year)
  • February 1 - Abolition of slavery
  • February 9 - Thaipoosam Cavadee
  • February 24 - Maha Shivratri
  • March 12 - Independence Day
  • March 29 - Ougadi
  • May 1 - Labour Day
  • June - Eid al-Fitr (Festival of Breaking the Fast) dates vary each year
  • August 15 - Assumption of the Virgin Mary
  • August - Ganesh Chaturthi dates vary each year
  • October - Diwali (Festival of Lights) dates vary each year
  • November 1 - All Saints' Day
  • November 2 - Arrival of indentured laborers
  • December 25 - Christmas

Many public facilities are closed on the aforementioned holidays. For many of these days, if the official holiday falls on a Sunday, the following working day is observed as a day off.

Electricity

The mains voltage is 220 volts (50 hertz). A universal travel adapter is recommended.
