Amankila

Mangosteen, Bali

Amankila

Amankila means 'peaceful hill,' and this is certainly a fitting description of the ambiance at this resort. The boutique resort is peacefully situated, built on a hill. To the rear, it is flanked by the majestic Mount Agung, and at the front, it overlooks the ocean. The architectural style was designed by Ed Tuttle, who crafted the suites as Balinese beach houses perched on stilts amid frangipani and bougainvillea, with extensive use of mainly teak wood.

Stroll through the tropical gardens among the frangipani trees and relax at the spectacular three-level infinity pool that seamlessly appears to merge with the ocean. Continue your walk to the Beach Club, which has its own pool and is nestled among palm trees on a dark private beach. Despite its secluded location, you will not have to worry about boredom. Amankila has curated a number of experiences designed to introduce you to this less touristy part of Bali in various ways.

Your accommodation

The standalone suites, all with a traditional alang-alang roof and surrounded by frangipani trees, are designed as beach houses with a twist. They are inspired by East Bali, particularly by Taman Soekasada Ujung, the Royal Water Palace just outside Amlapura.

Each spacious suite consists of a bedroom with panoramic windows, an en-suite bathroom, and a delightful large terrace. Twelve suites feature a private pool on the terrace. All suites are built on stilts and connected to the main pavilion and restaurants via elevated walkways. This way, you can enjoy maximum privacy while easily walking to the resort's facilities.

Experiences

Amankila has developed a number of unique experiences that you can add to your stay. Here are some examples.

Amandari Detour

Are you traveling from Amankila to Amandari in Ubud? If you have to cover this distance of approximately an hour and a half anyway, you might as well turn this transfer into a half-day tour, visiting the most beautiful sights along the way. You will visit the ancient Kehen Temple, with a unique entrance. The stunning Ulun Danu Batur Temple is the second most important Hindu-Buddhist temple in Bali. It is actually a complex consisting of 9 temples. The village of Pengelipuran is one of the best examples of a village with traditional architecture. It has become quite touristy by now, but still less known among Westerners and truly very unique. Finally, the Tirta Empul Temple is on the program, a traditional temple mainly known for its sacred spring water where purification rituals are performed.

Scuba Diving at Padang Bai

This diving excursion is suitable for everyone with an Open Water diving certification. To reach the dive site, it takes about a 15-minute drive to Padang Bai, followed by a 5-minute boat ride. Here you will find stunning coral reefs that are still in good condition. With some luck, you may see white-tip reef sharks calmly swimming around, as well as sea turtles and a variety of fish.

Hotel Information

Accommodation

The Amankila has only 31 suites, all detached and built on stilts with an alang-alang roof. The Garden Suites offer garden views, while the Ocean Suites provide sea views. Both suites are 94 m². The Pool Suite also offers sea views but is much more spacious at 204 m² and features a private pool on the terrace. For an even more special stay, you can book one of the 3 Infinity Pool Suites, each with its own 9-meter-long infinity pool overlooking the ocean.

The Kilasari Suite and Indrakila Suite are situated higher on the hill for expansive views and even more privacy. The largest suite is the Amankila Suite, the only suite with 2 bedrooms. It offers views of the beach and Amuk Bay and has a private 10.5-meter-long pool. Additionally, you will have a private butler at your service.

All suites are decorated with natural materials and feature a king-size canopy bed, a seating area, a spacious terrace, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a sound system, a dining area, and a minibar. Please note: a TV is available upon request. The bathroom includes a bathtub, separate shower, dressing room, and double sink. Furthermore, a round-trip transfer to and from the airport is included as standard (not to other locations/hotels), daily afternoon tea at The Bar between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, non-motorized water sports such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, and the use of mountain bikes.

Activities

Amankila offers a range of activities, including water sports, cooking workshops, snorkeling and diving excursions, and sunset cruises. Several evenings a week, a cultural dance is performed with great professionalism, highly recommended.

If you wish to explore the eastern part of Bali, you can book a guided walking or cycling tour or visit a local handicraft village.

Since this region is still relatively unknown but has much to offer, you can also arrange more extensive excursions. Such as a jeep tour to remote temples and the ruins of palaces. A picnic lunch is often included at one of the 'bales' of the resort, a type of pavilion located in a stunning setting.

Restaurants

At The Restaurant, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. Wine tastings are also available here. The menu features Indonesian, Balinese, and Western dishes. The restaurant also offers a breathtaking view of the ocean. The fresh ingredients are sourced daily from the on-site organic garden and local farms. Adjacent to The Restaurant is The Bar, with views of the infinity pool. Here, you can enjoy a delicious drink at sunset. Snacks and lunch dishes are also available here. The Terrace is an Italian restaurant, open only for dinner. It is located next to the infinity pool and offers a panoramic view of the sea.

The Beach Club is situated by the beach and has indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is only open for lunch. From one of the beach balés, you can order drinks and light meals throughout the afternoon.

There are three private spaces available for a meal in complete privacy. The Harvest Table is a private pavilion at The Restaurant, with a stunning view of the ocean. Tamansari Bali overlooks the Buitan Valley, Mount Agung, and the eastern coastline. This is especially the perfect place for a romantic sunrise breakfast. Finally, a romantic breakfast, lunch, or dinner can be organized on the beach.

Wellness and Spa

The Spa offers an extensive menu of traditional Balinese treatments, holistic massages, and beauty treatments. The treatments can be enjoyed at the Spa, in your own Suite, or outdoors in the greenery at the Beach Club. They use their own natural, locally sourced Aman spa products.
