Originally from Etosha, these elephants were separated from their migratory herds in the 20th century due to increasing fences. Forced to survive in the desolate and arid landscape of Damaraland, these majestic animals have admirably adapted to the desert conditions. They easily cover 70 km a day and have become accustomed to their low water requirement of 25 to 50 liters.
