The 11 tastefully decorated rooms ensure that you feel at home in this beautiful beachfront setting. All rooms are uniquely designed and spread across 3 different houses. They are approximately 40m² in size and equipped with a comfortable king-size bed. If desired, some rooms can also be offered as twin rooms. The bathrooms are very spacious and feature a free-standing bathtub, walk-in shower, and two sinks. Additionally, all rooms are equipped with air conditioning, coffee and tea facilities, a well-stocked minibar, digital TV, and a safe. Each room has a large terrace where you can enjoy meals in complete privacy from your room.

The luxurious Deluxe Superior rooms are located in the front house, offering all of them direct and frontal views of the ocean from the spacious balcony. The bright and spacious Superior rooms are situated on the side of the houses and, thanks to French doors opening onto the terrace, offer views of both the mountains and the ocean.

The Luxury rooms offer partial ocean views, and one of these rooms even has the extra luxurious benefit of a plunge pool. Finally, the Standard rooms are located at the back, with views of the mountains.

Birkenhead House offers a refined blend of modern African flavors, Cape seafood, and traditional French techniques, enriched with strong Asian and Italian influences. Only the freshest seasonal ingredients are used.

Guests can dine directly by the coast with a view of the ocean, next to the pool, in the panoramic dining room, or in complete privacy of their room. During the summer months, the hotel sometimes hosts an authentic African braai (barbecue) to bring family and friends together.

Guests will love the opportunity to join the chef for a day to gather mussels found among the rocks around the hotel. Afterwards, the chef will give a 'masterclass' in preparing these delicious fresh mussels over an open fire, before the guests can enjoy them themselves.

Located at the foot of the stunning Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, this is the perfect place to experience a wine tasting in the area. There are many excellent and popular restaurants to discover around Hermanus.

The pool at the main building is spread over two levels and seems to blend seamlessly together. The second pool is located on a lower level, directly by the sea, offering an uninterrupted view of the ocean and comfortable loungers around it.

Birkenhead House features 3 beautiful treatment rooms with an extensive spa menu, ranging from massages and aromatherapy to reflexology therapy. The fully equipped fitness center is the perfect choice for active guests.

The hotel offers a wide range of activities that allow you to fully enjoy the stunning natural surroundings of Hermanus. Whales can be spotted from land, at sea, and even from the air. Experience an ocean safari to see the 'Big 5 of the sea' (whales, white sharks, dolphins, penguins, and fur seals). Rent a kayak from the historic Hermanus harbor or take a sunset boat trip. Other activities, such as mussel harvesting, surfing, and visiting the penguins at Stony Point, are also available.

Other options include cycling and hiking in the vibrant Fernkloof reserve, where you can also visit a local art gallery along the way. Additionally, there are two championship golf courses in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.

Birkenhead House is an adults-only hotel. Children under 10 years old are not allowed unless the entire beach house is booked.

The hotel is part of The Royal Portfolio and, consequently, also of The Royal Portfolio Foundation. Through this foundation, the hotel supports the community with education and also acts as a food bank for those in need, as well as providing warm shelter. Not only the local community, but also you as a guest are made aware of the contribution we all need to make to the world.

Located within the nature reserve around Hermanus, the hotel is committed to protecting the coastline as much as possible, both on land and in the sea, through the Dyer Island Conservation Trust. Of course, the hotel is also equipped with modern facilities that contribute to an as sustainable stay as possible; think of LED lighting, energy-saving water purification, and avoiding the use of plastic, among other measures.
