Golf
The Steenberg Golf Estate & Private Golf Club is within a 10-minute walk from the hotel and was designed by Peter Matkovich. The golf course is consistently ranked as one of the best-maintained courses in the Top 100 by South Africa Golf Digest. Known for its hybrid design, the course offers traditional golfers the opportunity to apply the 'bump and run' technique. This is a rare shot in South Africa, especially around the greens. Players are also challenged by strategically placed bunkers and water hazards, attracting golfers seeking a premium golf experience.
The 14th hole, a par-three and not exactly short, features the largest green in Africa, measuring 76 meters in length. Indigenous shrubs protect the green, and the hillside is shaped to mimic the iconic mountain range in the background.
This 18-hole golf course is designed to make full use of natural features and obstacles, such as the vineyards, pine forests, and gentle waterways. The ecological diversity gives the course a unique character, with Table Mountain as a breathtaking backdrop.
Activities
Located on a beautiful estate, the Steenberg Hotel & Spa is a destination in itself, offering numerous activities for you to enjoy. The estate features various walking trails through the gardens, vineyards, and surrounding nature. Additionally, you can explore the estate on the mountain bikes provided by the hotel. Just a 10-minute walk away is a championship 18-hole golf course, a must for golf enthusiasts.
The central location between Cape Town, Table Mountain, and Muizenberg makes this hotel an ideal base for exploring the region. You can visit other wineries, walk along the coast from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay, or take a trip to Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach. The main attractions of Cape Town, such as Table Mountain and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, are also easily accessible.
Furthermore, from the hotel, you can join organized tours to the city's cultural and historical sites, participate in cooking workshops highlighting local dishes, or enjoy a day of sailing or kayaking on the nearby waters. Each of these activities offers a unique way to experience the beauty and diversity of the Cape region.
Child-friendly
Children are very welcome at the hotel. Although there is no dedicated kids' club, they do offer various seasonal activities, toys for children, and children's menus in the restaurants. The Family rooms are an excellent option when traveling with children and provide comfort and convenience for the whole family.
Sustainability
Steenberg Hotel & Spa is committed not only to sustainable viticulture but is also deeply rooted in the local community by supporting local suppliers and providing employment opportunities to the residents of the area. The hotel aims to have a positive impact on both the economic and social well-being of the community.
Furthermore, the hotel is highly dedicated to water conservation. Numerous initiatives are undertaken to minimize water consumption and implement projects that contribute to more efficient water use. Examples include converting old cement wine barrels into a water reservoir with a five-stage filtration system to ensure drinking water remains safe and clean. Additionally, the pools at the tasting room and Bistro 1682 are refilled with filtered dam water, and all gardens are irrigated with non-potable water from its own dam.
These sustainability efforts highlight that Steenberg Hotel & Spa is not only a luxurious destination but also a responsible and environmentally conscious enterprise actively working towards a more sustainable future.
