The area around Camp Kipwe is a fascinating and unique destination in Namibia due to its rich history and impressive rock engravings.
Twijfelfontein literally means "doubtful spring" and refers to the fact that the water source in the area was uncertain and sometimes dried up.
Twijfelfontein is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its impressive rock engravings that date back more than 6,000 years. It is one of the largest collections of rock engravings in Africa, with over 2,000 images created by the San people. The engravings depict various animals such as elephants, giraffes, rhinos, people, and abstract shapes.
In addition to the rock engravings, other sights can be found in Twijfelfontein, such as the Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain. The Organ Pipes are a series of basalt columns resembling organ pipes, formed by the cooling of lava.
Burnt Mountain is a striking geological formation in Damaraland. It earned its name due to the burnt, reddish color of the rocks illuminated by the sun.
