Activities

Nature Game Drives in Search of the Desert Elephant

The desert elephant is a fascinating phenomenon in Namibia. These extraordinary animals have adapted to the harsh life in the desert. While an ordinary elephant requires approximately 100-200 liters of water daily, these desert elephants can survive on just 25-50 liters per day and even go several days without water. It is truly remarkable to observe these animals in their natural environment. Using a robust safari vehicle, you will search for the famous desert elephants in the dry riverbeds of the Huab River. This exciting safari usually starts at 06:30 and lasts about 4-6 hours.

Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain, and Organ Pipes - UNESCO World Heritage

The surroundings of Mowani Mountain Camp are a fascinating and unique destination in Namibia, rich in history and impressive rock art. "Twijfelfontein" literally means "uncertain spring" and refers to the water sources in the area, which sometimes dry up. Twijfelfontein is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its impressive rock engravings dating back more than 6,000 years. It is one of the largest collections of rock art in Africa, with over 2,000 images created by the San people. The carvings depict various animals such as elephants, giraffes, rhinoceroses, humans, and abstract shapes.

In addition to the rock art, other sights can be explored in Twijfelfontein, such as the Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain. The Organ Pipes are a series of basalt columns that resemble organ pipes and were formed by the cooling of lava. Burnt Mountain is a striking geological formation in Damaraland. This mountain, named for its burnt, reddish hue of the rocks illuminated by the sun, resulted from volcanic activity and is approximately 200 million years old. It majestically rises above the surrounding plains, making it a prominent feature in the landscape.

The tour of these fascinating locations usually begins at 15:00 and lasts about +/- 2 hours.
