Hotel Information

Accommodation

All rooms are decorated in light colors with details in earthy tones. Two rooms are located on the first floor and do not have a balcony, but offer a more expansive view. The other two rooms are on the ground floor and provide direct access to the spacious terrace deck. The rooms feature a seating area, free Wi-Fi, a small refrigerator, and coffee/tea making facilities. The ensuite bathrooms are equipped with a shower and Ashley & Co toiletries.

Restaurants

The lodge does not have its own restaurant. Breakfast is served in the communal lounge/dining area of the lodge. Drinks are also served here, and every evening a 'cocktail hour' takes place either in this area or on the terrace deck.

Activities

The lodge is wonderfully peaceful, situated in a serene environment, yet this very location offers many activities and sights. Of course, you can visit Hokitika, which is about a 10-minute drive away, where you will find cozy and excellent restaurants, as well as shops. Additionally, this town is renowned for its craftsmanship in working with pounamu, New Zealand jade. Here, you can purchase beautiful pounamu jewelry. Rimu Lodge can even arrange a pounamu workshop for you.

One highly recommended activity is a visit to the brightly colored turquoise Hokitika Gorge, surrounded by lush forests. Here, you can enjoy stunning hikes. In the wider area, there are many walks to explore; ask your hostess for tips. A special experience that the lodge can arrange for you is a helicopter flight over the Southern Alps, allowing you to admire several glaciers from the air, with a landing in the eternal snow on the mountains.

In this region, there was also a period of gold rush. A walking tour starts not far from the lodge and takes you past viewpoints and old gold mine tunnels. Just 8 km from the lodge, you will find a ‘treetop’ walk, which is also highly recommended. Alternatively, rent an e-bike to enjoy spectacular cycling tours in the area.

Due to its remote location and the absence of large cities nearby, you will find a ‘dark sky’ here. This means that, due to the lack of light pollution, on a cloudless evening, you can enjoy a sparkling sky filled with millions of stars. Even the Milky Way can be admired on such a night.

Sustainability

In a lodge where the natural environment takes center stage, sustainability is of course also important. Recycling, local purchasing, and reducing emissions are part of the daily routine. All bathroom products are in refillable containers, and the brand Ashley & Co also practices sustainable business operations. The lodge collects rainwater, which is filtered using an UV filter system and a carbon filter system, ensuring clean and soft water. There is a garden where fruit and herbs are grown for use in breakfast. Green waste is used as animal feed and composted for the lodge's own garden.
