About River Birches
The charming River Birches lodge is the only boutique accommodation located so close to Tongariro National Park. The cozy, homely lodge is situated in a spacious garden by the Tongariro River, allowing you to enjoy nature and tranquility right here.
In the morning, you can wake up peacefully with a cup of coffee on the terrace overlooking the garden, while the birds happily chirp away. Afterwards, indulge in a hearty breakfast made with fresh local products at the lodge, so you start your day full of energy. Take a leisurely walk along the Tongariro Riverwalk, explore Tongariro National Park, or do the Tongariro Crossing, the spectacular day hike that takes you past craters, a vividly colored crater lake, steaming vents, and breathtaking vistas. The lodge can organize this for you with a private guide, offering a unique experience.
You can reserve a dinner at the lodge in advance, allowing you to enjoy a gastronomic 4-course dinner in the evening. Alternatively, visit Turangi in the evening to dine at a local restaurant. Whatever you choose, the warm-hearted owners will ensure you feel completely at home here.

Your Stay
Amidst the lush green garden, nestled between tall birch and beech trees, are three charming rooms. Each room is unique, yet all are warmly, subtly, and elegantly furnished. A large glass sliding door provides access to your terrace, where you can relax and enjoy the view of the garden. If you are traveling with a larger group, there is also a separate cottage with three bedrooms available for private rental.

Accommodation
The lodge offers only three rooms, each uniquely designed and decorated. Each room has a terrace overlooking the garden, a super king-size bed, TV, coffee/tea making facilities, and a minibar filled with New Zealand wine, sparkling water, and a selection of craft beers. The Duchess room features a private garden. The Admiral’s room and the Major’s room both have their own outdoor jacuzzi, where you can relax after a day full of activities. Enjoy a glass of wine in the warm water under the sparkling stars. Staying at the lodge includes a freshly prepared breakfast each day. The parking area is equipped with a charging station, should you be traveling with an electric car.
If you are traveling with your family or in a slightly larger group, you can rent The Cottage. This is a spacious, self-contained cottage separate from the lodge. The Cottage has a large wooden deck overlooking the garden, a separate living room, three bedrooms, a modern kitchen with all facilities, a jacuzzi in a private garden, and its own parking space. This parking space is equipped with a charging station for electric cars. When staying in The Cottage, you will receive a daily basket with fresh breakfast ingredients to prepare yourself. You can also arrange in advance for the lodge’s chef to prepare a delicious dinner for you.

The lodge can organize a variety of activities for you. For example, you have the opportunity to hike the Tongariro Crossing with a private guide. Not only will your guide share impressive stories about the area and introduce you to the unique flora, but they will also take you to quieter spots away from the crowds and to the most beautiful viewpoints.
In the immediate vicinity of the lodge, you will find great fishing spots. You are located on the Tongariro River, which features a stunning trail that you can explore on your own. It is also possible to go white-water rafting on the Tongariro River, complete with rapids, all the way to the edge of Lake Taupo.
