Discover Sigiriya

Sigiriya, located in the heart of Sri Lanka's cultural triangle, is an iconic destination and a must-see. This historic city is dominated by the world-famous Lion's Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and captivates visitors with its rich history and spectacular views.

Sigiriya is situated in the central province of Sri Lanka, approximately 170 kilometers northeast of Colombo. Surrounded by lush forests, shimmering lakes, and villages, it offers a tranquil and picturesque setting, perfect for exploring the country's cultural and natural treasures.

Sigiriya is a place with a mysterious and impressive past. According to legend, King Kassapa I built this fortress in the 5th century atop a massive rock as a safe refuge after a power struggle with his brother. The rock was surrounded by gardens, water features, and remarkable artworks, making it one of the most advanced cities of its time. After Kassapa's death, Sigiriya became a Buddhist monastery, a role it maintained for centuries.
