About The Brando
One of the most unique and exclusive resorts in French Polynesia is The Brando. Dreams of staying on a true Robinson Crusoe island become a reality here. Years ago, the late actor Marlon Brando discovered the atoll of Tetiaroa while he was in Tahiti filming Mutiny on the Bounty, and he fell in love with the natural beauty, untouched landscape, and Polynesian authenticity of the island. He was already deeply interested in sustainability and wanted to protect this island. In collaboration with a local hotelier, he decided to design a resort that would be sustainable and derive its existence purely from the island and its local culture, history, and lifestyle.
The result is The Brando, consisting of only 35 private villas, perfectly harmonized with the natural environment. Each villa feels like a personal cocoon where you can completely relax. The villas are styled as Polynesian houses, emphasizing outdoor living and a natural flow. Using traditional materials, a modern design was created, and the villas are equipped with all comforts. The restaurants and bars are praised for their quality, and the high-end activities allow you to experience many facets of authentic Polynesia.

Hotel Information
Accommodation
The resort features only 35 villas, all with their own private pool and complete privacy. Since comfort, but especially privacy and sustainability, are the main pillars of this resort, it was decided not to build any villas over the water. All are nestled among the palm trees, right on the beach.
An elevated walkway leads you to your little paradise for the days to come. You can choose from a villa with 1, 2, or 3 bedrooms. All villas are constructed from natural materials and decorated in a modern, sleek Polynesian style. There is plenty of natural light in the separate living room, media room, and bedroom(s). The view from the villa and your beautiful garden, surrounded by greenery, is indescribable. Enjoy the many shades of blue and turquoise of the lagoon stretching out before you, either from a sunbed or from your private pool, all in complete privacy. The spacious bathroom includes a shower, double sink, and a bathtub located outdoors.
The One Bedroom Villa offers 96 m² of space. For families, there is the Family One Bedroom Villa, which is the same as the One Bedroom Villa but with a media room furnished with a twin bed for children. Or opt for the Two Bedroom Villa, where the bedrooms are spread over two floors. There is one bedroom upstairs and one downstairs, each identical, with a king-size bed, en-suite bathroom, and a private terrace. The spacious living room provides a fantastic view of the garden and the lagoon behind, with a cozy sitting area, a large dining table, and a kitchenette. Lastly, there is a Three Bedroom Villa, which is the same as the Two Bedroom Villa but with an additional separate house featuring a third bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and private terrace.
Swimming pool
Although each villa has its own private pool and borders a beautiful turquoise lagoon where you can enjoy swimming, the resort also features a freeform swimming pool. Here, you will find loungers where you can relax in the shade of an umbrella. You can also enjoy a snack and a drink here.
Restaurants
The all-day dining restaurant The Beachcomber offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a casual setting. You can sit indoors, on the terrace, or on the beach with your feet in the sand and enjoy a variety of dishes, with a focus on Polynesian flavors and influences. For a true Polynesian fine dining experience, dine at Les Mutinés, inspired by the film 'Mutiny on the Bounty.' French chef Jeam Imbert presides here, delighting you with a fusion of French techniques and Polynesian flavors, using as many local ingredients from Tetiaroa as possible. Due to the fine dining nature, children under 10 years old are not permitted in this restaurant. If you want to try something different for an evening, dine at Nami, the Teppanyaki restaurant.
Before there was a resort on this island, there was already a bar where Marlon Brando spent many hours and was fond of the cocktails. This bar now lives on as Bob’s Bar, where many delicious cocktails are still served. But you can also enjoy lunch or dinner here. For a sunset cocktail or to end your evening, visit Te Manu Bar. Elevated among the treetops, you will find a number of private tables with a stunning view over the lagoon. Engage in deep conversations in complete privacy and enjoy cocktails tailored entirely to your taste.
Of course, it is possible to arrange a romantic dinner in a particularly secluded spot. Or dine in the privacy of your own villa.
Spa / Wellness
The Varua Te Ora Polynesian Spa is a destination in itself within the resort. It is tucked away in a lush oasis of exotic foliage. The spa is based on and inspired by Polynesian culture, where ‘mana’ or life force plays an essential role. Here, you can experience ‘Taurumi,’ the traditional Polynesian massage. But you will also find a hammam, spaces for yoga, meditation, and sound bowls. Very special is the Fare Manu, the ‘bird’s nest,’ a romantic private cabin designed specifically for couples, perched about 6 meters high in the trees. With a stunning view of a lotus-covered lake, you can enjoy a spa treatment here.
All-inclusive
By default, the villas are booked including breakfast. However, you can also opt for an all-inclusive stay. The following is then included:
- All meals at the resort's restaurants, excluding 'Premium' products
- A wide selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks
- The minibar in the villa, which is stocked once daily free of charge
- One excursion or activity per person per day, in international groups
- A 50-minute spa treatment for one person per day when staying in the One Bedroom Villa or Family One Bedroom Villa, for two persons per day in the Two Bedroom Villa, and for three persons per day in the Three Bedroom Villa
Activities
Although the resort exudes tranquility and you can truly relax here, there are also many activities to enjoy, both within the resort and in the surrounding area. All activities are focused on the stunning environment and local culture. You can participate in workshops in traditional dance, music, weaving, cooking, and more. Or book a boat tour with a naturalist, during which you will discover various motu's (islets) and learn about the flora and fauna. At the Explorer Center, you can delve into the local nature and culture in the company of experts. Alternatively, learn more about French Polynesian black pearls. Some evenings, there is also a movie night organized on the beach.
If you wish to stay active, the resort offers plenty of options for this as well. There is a running route and a fitness center that is open 24/7. You can play tennis, or use a traditional canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard, and snorkeling equipment. Or embark on an unforgettable diving excursion. As part of your stay, the use of one bicycle per person per villa is included by default. There are also children's bikes available.
Child-friendly
The Brando welcomes children, and there are plenty of opportunities for them to be entertained. The beach and the lagoon alone provide hours of fun. For children aged 6 to 12, there is the Lagoon School, where they can learn more about Polynesian culture, flora, and fauna in a playful way.
There is also the Varua Polynesian Spa Experience for Kids, where children aged 8 to 12 can enjoy a spa treatment together with their parents. The treatment is specially adapted for children.
Sustainability
Marlon Brando's wish was to keep the atoll in its original state and to allow others to enjoy it in complete comfort. With the help of various techniques, the goal is to make the resort entirely energy-neutral, and they have now achieved LEED Platinum Certification. A beautiful and practical example is the Sea Water Air Conditioning program, where they pump very cold seawater from a depth of 930 meters and use this water as air conditioning in all the resort's buildings. Rainwater is also used for the pool and laundry, and desalinated seawater is used in the bathrooms. A recycling system for used water ensures that it is used to irrigate the gardens and vegetable patches. Of course, solar panels are also utilized, covering 75% of the resort's energy needs.
There is a vegetable garden and organic fruit orchard to supply the restaurants. Spread across three islands, the resort has 70 beehives from which they harvest their own Tetiaroa honey. This honey is used in the kitchen and to enhance cocktails.
