Discover the Skeleton Coast
The Skeleton Coast is a long stretch of coastline approximately 500 kilometers along the Atlantic Ocean, in the northwest of Namibia. The Skeleton Coast also has a rich history, in which shipwrecks and lost adventurers play a significant role. Some of these wrecks can still be seen today and are an important attraction for visitors to the area. The region has earned its name due to the many shipwrecks and bones of sea creatures found along the coast.
It is one of the most inhospitable and dangerous coastal areas in the world, with a rugged shoreline, cold sea currents, and dense fog banks that frequently occur. It is home to many colonies of seals and sea lions, which feed on the abundant fish and crustaceans in the cold Benguela Current.

What you can expect:
- Breathtaking landscapes with towering sand dunes, rugged coastlines, and desert terrain
- The Skeleton Coast is a place rich in history. It is home to the world's largest ship graveyard, with over 500 shipwrecks
- A variety of wildlife, including fur seals, ostriches, oryx, zebras, and springboks
- Spot whales and the rare Haviside dolphin during a boat trip from Walvis Bay
- There are several unique activities to do on the Skeleton Coast, such as sandboarding, 4x4 excursions, and hiking
Location
The Skeleton Coast is very remote in the northwest of Namibia and is difficult to visit. There are two ways to get there: you can drive yourself along the southern part of the Skeleton Coast, or you can take a fly-in safari to the more remote northern part of the coast.
