The George

The Executive and Premium Executive rooms are 29 m², with the Premium Executive being slightly more luxurious, featuring handcrafted furniture and more attention to decor. The bathrooms have walk-in showers. There are two Premium rooms with a balcony and views of the hotel gardens.

For more space, you can opt for the Junior Suite of 44 m². The extra room is utilized with a seating area and a larger bathroom with a bathtub and separate rain shower. From the suites, you also have a Nespresso coffee maker in the room. The Park Suite offers even more space at 58 m², with a separate sitting room and a stunning view over Hagley Park and the Avon River.

For a special stay with your family, relatives, or friends, you can book The Residence. This house was built in the 1950s and has recently been renovated into a luxurious accommodation. It is located next to the hotel’s main building and connected via a corridor, making it easy to access all facilities. At the same time, The Residence offers extra privacy and exclusivity.

50 Bistro, the restaurant of The George, has established a very good reputation and is considered one of the top fine dining restaurants in Christchurch. The restaurant is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, high tea, and dinner. Here, modern New Zealand cuisine is served, renowned for its use of fresh, local seasonal ingredients. The 50 Bistro Lobby Bar is a cozy bar where you can enjoy a wide selection of drinks and bar snacks.

The George offers a fitness center, and there are free yoga mats available if you wish to practice yoga in your room. If you prefer a guided yoga session, lessons can be arranged at a yoga school just 6 minutes' drive from the hotel. The concierge service at this hotel is excellent, with even two Les Clef d’Or Concierge members. They can arrange anything for you, from restaurant reservations to excursions. The city center of Christchurch is within walking distance, so you will likely not spend much time in the hotel. In Hagley Park, next to the hotel, you will find several walking, cycling, and jogging trails. Additionally, The George offers e-bikes for rent, including helmets, making it even easier to explore the city and its surroundings.

The hotel has an extensive collection of artworks by renowned New Zealand artists. It is possible to book a private tour, where a guide walks you through the corridors and public areas of the hotel, pointing out the artworks and sharing insights about the techniques, inspiration, and background stories of the artists.

The George embraces the philosophy of ‘Caring Luxury’. They place great importance on sustainability at many levels and are therefore EnviroGold certified by Qualmark, New Zealand’s hallmark for tourism providers. For example, the key cards are made from sustainably sourced wood rather than plastic and can be reused as often as plastic cards. They are then composted. Guests can purchase reusable items from the hotel to use during their stay or at home, such as reusable bags, coffee cups, and water bottles. In the lobby and in the rooms, there are water jugs with drinking water available for use. When you go out, simply refill your reusable water bottle at the reception or in the Bistro. Lastly, they collaborate with sustainable suppliers.
