Zawadi Hotel

The Zawadi Hotel is a boutique resort with only 12 villas, allowing you to enjoy peace and privacy at all times. Your villa offers ample space with 100 m². Whether you're relaxing on the sunbed on your terrace, from your plunge pool, your room, or even from the bathtub in the bathroom, you have a panoramic view of the azure Indian Ocean. Your bedroom also features a spacious sitting area. The bathroom includes a freestanding bathtub, a separate shower, double sinks, and a separate toilet.

Your stay is on an all-inclusive basis. This means breakfast, lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea are included. Non-alcoholic drinks, coffee, tea, and a selection of beer, house wines, and spirits are also included.

Breakfast and lunch are served at the Mswakini Beach Bar & Restaurant. Tastefully decorated in the characteristic 'beach style', it offers a lovely spot to relax during the day with a delicious drink and snack.

For an aperitif, head to the Mali Mali Lounge & Bar. Here, you can enjoy relaxing with a sea breeze in your hair and a colorful cocktail in hand.

For dinner, visit the Drift Wood Dining Room. Using vegetables and herbs from their own farm, they prepare delicious, fresh dishes. Enjoy the fantastic Swahili cuisine, as well as many Western dishes.

The Zawadi Hotel features a wonderful infinity pool. You may also use the pools at the sister resorts Baraza and Breezes, which are accessible via shuttle service.

Right next to the resort, you will find a not-too-large but stunning pearl-white beach with sunbeds. Moreover, from the beach, you can swim or go snorkeling all day long, even at low tide. This is quite unique in Zanzibar, where the tidal differences are significant. 

The resort does not have a separate spa, but spa treatments are offered in the privacy of your own villa or at another location of your choice. For an extensive, luxurious spa treatment, you can visit the Baraza Resort, which features a beautiful spa.

Although Zawadi is small-scale, you certainly will not get bored here. From the beach, you can go kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and snorkeling. There is even a PADI dive center for organized snorkeling and diving trips. There is a jogging route if you want to start or end your day actively. Or visit the small farm of the resort, where they keep animals and grow vegetables and herbs.

For even more facilities, you can visit the sister resorts Baraza Resort & Spa or Breezes Beach Club & Spa with the shuttle service, where you will find, among other things, a fitness center, tennis court, luxury spa, and more water sports options. Think of kitesurfing and sailing.

Furthermore, the resort offers a range of excursions. You can explore the historic center of Stone Town or discover the background of Zanzibar’s nickname, ‘Spice Island,’ during a visit to a plantation or farm. Visit Prison Island, another historic site where impressive giant tortoises also live. If you prefer to immerse yourself in nature, visit the Chwaka Bay National Park or go dolphin spotting in the Menai Bay Conservation Area.

With regard to the environment and sustainability, and also as part of The Zanzibar Collection, the Zawadi Hotel boasts the largest solar panel garden on the island. This supplies almost all of the hotels in The Zanzibar Collection with electricity they generate themselves. Additionally, they have an international team invested in striving to become a 100% plastic-free resort. Furthermore, they practice organic gardening, recycling of waste and water, and aim to protect the land and sea environment as much as possible.

The hotel has its own farm, Zawadi Shamba Zanzibar. Traditionally, each family had its own piece of land used to grow food and keep animals to sustain the family. This is where the word ‘shamba’ comes from, meaning farm in Swahili. On their own farm, Zawadi grows vegetables and herbs for use in their restaurants. They also keep animals, which receive leftovers from the restaurant and in return provide the animals with natural manure for use on the farm.

Furthermore, Zawadi encourages as many staff as possible to grow into new roles and provides training for this purpose. They also employ and train as many local residents as possible. The local communities are further supported in health, hygiene, and education, and as much fresh produce as possible is sourced from local farmers and fishermen. The resorts’ interiors are created using the work of local artisans and artists.
