Discover Addo Elephant National Park
Addo Elephant National Park is one of the largest national parks in South Africa and is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including more than 600 wild iconic African elephants. The park is located in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa and was originally established in 1931 to protect the last 16 remaining African elephants in the region. Since then, the park has expanded and now encompasses a wide range of landscapes, from dry savannas to dense forests.
What truly makes Addo unique is the presence of the "Big 7" instead of the usual "Big 5" found in many safari destinations in Africa. The term "Big 5" refers to the five largest and most iconic animals to spot during a safari: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalos. The fact that Addo National Park not only covers land but also borders the sea allows visitors to spot whales and white sharks. Boat trips along the coast offer opportunities to see these marine creatures. Additionally, the park is home to a variety of other species, including zebras, jackals, hyenas, and a wide range of bird species.
