The tour begins in Auckland, where you will see ancient volcanoes and admire the architecture of some remarkable buildings, such as the Auckland Museum in the Auckland Domain. You will also enjoy the charming colonial-style mansions in the Parnell district. Take in the stunning beaches of Auckland, including the famous golden sands of Mission Bay.
It is time to cross the Waitemata Harbour via the Auckland Harbour Bridge. You will have a great view of Rangitoto Island, the largest volcano but also the youngest volcano in Auckland at only 600 years old.
Before reaching the rugged west coast, you will visit the Arataki Visitor Centre to get an introduction to this beautiful area. The view over Manukau Harbour is spectacular. Then, you will continue into the Waitakere Ranges, with panoramic views over the ocean.
You will explore Te Wao Nui o Tiriwa, the ancient forest covering the Waitakere Ranges. During the walk through the forest, you will learn the Maori names of the unique native trees and plants, as well as their importance and uses as food or medicine. With some luck, you may also spot some of the shy bird species that inhabit this area. Your guide will share the legends associated with these forests and surroundings. Through the 'Wild West Coast,' you will return to central Auckland, where the tour concludes.
